DESCRIPTION:\nIPMU Postdoc Colloquium Series\n\n\n\nSpeaker:Philip Boyle SmithTitle:Puzzles with Chiral Symmetries in Two Dimensions Date (JST):Fri, Dec 10, 2021, 11:00 – 11:30Place:ZoomAbstract:Fermions in even spacetime dimension admit symmetry groups under which the two chiralities of fermion transform differently, for example the SU(3) × SU(2) × U(1) symmetry of the Standard Model.For such a symmetry, we can ask several questions. Can we write down symmetry-preserving interactions that gap the theory? Can we write down symmetry-preserving boundary conditions? Can we realise the theory in a lattice model where the symmetry is exact? On-site?
