OVERVIEW

The Kavli Foundation hosts a Kavli Institute Community that connects scientists and scientific managers from all 20 Kavli Institutes. The institutes are a global network of endowed research institutes engaging in fundamental research in the areas of astrophysics, nanoscience, neuroscience and theoretical physics. The Kavli Institute Community provides opportunities for the foundation and the institutes to share information and expertise, learn from one another and co-create projects that add value to the community. The community is open to all institute members, past and present, including faculty, postdocs, graduate students and institute managers.

The virtual Kavli Institute Community programs will be rolling out over the course of 2021. Some activities span all institutes, regardless of scientific discipline, such an institute newsletter, webinar series, and “peer learning groups” on Public Engagement, Research Infrastructure and Core Facilities, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Other activities eo;; target specific scientific disciplines or career stages, such as a virtual monthly neuroscience meeting, a Slack workspace, and a variety of annual in-person meetings.

Our vision for the Kavli Institutes is that they will be recognized globally as key enterprises for breakthrough science, excelling in the science itself, and their approaches to doing science. The Kavli Institute Community will help enable the institutes to create, collaborate and innovate to achieve this vision.
