I will motivate why and how General Relativity can be classically extended and how the generation of gravitational waves can be modified. I will review how these differences can be perturbative or non-perturbative according to the specific theory under scrutiny, and show how non-linearities can become important in the merger of compact objects. I will discuss the future prospects of testing General relativity with next generation interferometers
This talk is part of the Wednesday HEP-GR Colloquium series.
